Deacon Eloy Contreras is a Catholic deacon serving in the Archdiocese of Milwaukee, dedicated to spiritual care, prison ministry, and pastoral outreach. Ordained in September 2024, Deacon Eloy brings years of compassionate service to the margins of society—accompanying the sick, mentoring youth, and offering hope to the incarcerated.
He currently serves as a hospice chaplain, ministering to individuals and families during some of life’s most sacred transitions. His work includes weekly spiritual care visits, bereavement support, and ecumenical ministry to those of all faiths—or none at all.
In addition, Deacon Eloy leads the Journey2Renewal initiative—a ministry that includes prison and reentry ministry by offering faith formation, sacramental preparation, and mentorship for young men at the Racine Youth Offender Correctional Facility. He visits weekly for communion services, Bible studies, and catechesis, and collaborates monthly with area priests to offer Mass. What began with just seven youth has grown into a vibrant group of over twenty young men and continues to expand.
Guided by the principle: “I go when needed, not when convenient,” his ministry is marked by a deep responsiveness to the needs of the Church and the wider community.
Deacon Eloy also offers bilingual spiritual support and has previously served as a youth minister, public safety officer, and pastoral caregiver to those encountering homelessness. His heart for service is shaped by a lifelong commitment to justice, dignity, and the Gospel call to love without limits.
He resides in Wisconsin with his wife and family and continues to be inspired by the faith of his children and grandchildren.
Through speaking engagements, liturgical ministry, and community initiatives such as Hanging with a Hero and ACTS (Active Catholic Teens in Service), Deacon Eloy invites others to live lives of purpose, mercy, and renewal.
